Dark an Stormy Night

It was a stormy dark night
My chest was painin' a might
Turned left at the blown and blurry light
To give my drunken friend a necessary ride

It was a dark and stormy night                                         - chorus
It was dark and stormy night
It was a dark and stormy night
It was a dark and stormy night

The nurses put me in a dress
The doctor drilled away the stress
Friends and family prayed and touched and blessed
Edward George and Snoopy sent their best

[chorus]

Travelin' Alone

Travelin alone has a kick all its own - but sometimes round a bend
You happen to find an accomplice, like-minded mate, co-conspirator, friend

I remember once in Marrakech – Got involved with a rambunctious princes
Had to save her from a gang of bandits and cutthroats
Her daddy gave me a bag of silver – said I'd live to spend it if I took the river
Wavin by to her from the stern of the royal rowboat

And I don't know where I'm goin – don't remember where I've been
But whatever way its blowin – my sails are to the wind

Washed up on a Southseas shore – friendly natives, pungent flora
They crowned me king and festivities began
I was eeny meeny mining for a paramour – then the hon I wanted hinted I'ze to be the main course
Took a potty break and zipped off in a catamaran            (Thank you darling!)

What the heck am I thinking – to get into all these fixes
Maybe shoulda stayed home drinkin – with my homies down in Dixie

A guru by the Bay of Bengal – hypnotized me when we mingled
Sent me walkin up along the Ganges to her source
I was lost and freezing in the snow when a yeti found me and led me below
To a yak who got me back on course

So where the heck am I at now and what's gonna happen next
When things get cruddy will I have a buddy who pulls me out of a wreck

Travelin alone has a kick all its own - but sometimes round a bend
You happen to find an accomplice, like-minded mate, co-conspirator, friend
You can scramble round with – friend, you can babble on to – friend
You can climb out of the rubble with – friend, you can hobble on with – friend
A travelin friend

Pocket Song

Pocket Song
So short
So true

Who Did I Write To?

Now tell me who did I write to?          [chorus]
When I went and wrote that letter
I addressed it dear to you
And it's the best that I could do

Did I write it to your head?
Did I write it to your heart?
To your memory your bed?
To your shadow to your star?
Tell me who who who did I write to

[chorus]

Did I write it to your face?
Did I write it to your smile?
To your hidden private place?
To your thought stream, to your wiles?
Now tell me who who who did I write to

[chorus]

Did I write it to your fingers?
Did I write it to your toes?
To your odyssey your goddess she?
Your doppelganger soul?
Now tell me who who who did I write to

John Belushi Butt

You're lookin like a dream tonight
Spread out on that bearskin rug
Before the crackling oak log fire
You've got - John Belushi butt

At first was your Karl Malden nose
And then that Marlon Brando gut
Not even now Depardieu toes - not those
Can vie with - John Belushi butt

Are you ready for my Teddy
I'll go steady if you let me
You are heady, better 'n Betty
Take machete's wild confetti

I'll bring to you your favorite pipe
And latte in a heated cup
Jojoba oil and Handy Wipes
For you've got - John Belushi butt

Babe You Got Me

Let me tell you baby
Plain as it can be
Bird got sky
Fish got water
And baby you got me.

You got me babe                 [chorus]
You got me babe
You got me babe
Babe, you got me.

Openin' a door
Who is that I see
Rain got air
Wind got leaf
An' it's come to be

[chorus]

Babe, you got me.        [Interlude]
Babe, you got me
Babe, you got meYou got me babe

From the first hello
To the last goodbye
Sun got shine
Moon got beam
An' till death do us die

 [chorus]

Stubbed

Stubbed his toe
Oh! oh!

Nothin' To Do

I got nothin' to do but sit around singin' songs for you   [chorus]
I got nothin' to say but gushy stuff and memories.

The bills pile up, the dishes too
If I don't sing you a song I'm blue
Cause I got nothin to do but sit around singin' songs for you

[always followed by [chorus]

The grass grows high, my shoes ain't tied
Tons of trash outside, the clock's not right

[followed by prior verse as are all verses]

The fridge is fowl, neighbors scowl
The dog she howls, the cat he growls

Clothes all dirty, house ain't purty
What ain't got dust got mold or rust

My agent calls, the auto's stalled
The toilet's stuck, the bathtub's yuck

Repo man hauls, child he bawls
Apples fall, the landlord calls

The phone's alright but the plants have died
Lectricity's cut, the gas is shut

My ex-wife calls, nother ex-wife calls
Ex girlfriend calls, mother n sister call

Nother ex calls, nother ex calls   [include these two lines last time only]
Nother ex calls, nother ex calls, nother ex calls

Earthquake strikes, tornado skies
Towns on fire, angry mob outside

Once Upon a Place

Once upon a place
I first saw your lovely face
Oh yes, it's said we met by what they call as chance
And I sighed, sweet lady, may I  have this dance

And we danced and danced and danced and danced and danced
And we danced and danced and danced and danced and danced
With your dancing eyes and smile and feet and hands
We danced and danced and danced and danced
And danced and danced and danced and danced and danced

Love like this of what we're made
Wouldn't take no stock in trade
So come to me and join our hands
Kindly lady, may I have this dance

And we danced and danced and danced and danced and danced
And we danced and danced and danced and danced and danced
With your dancing hips and breasts and dress and glance
We danced and danced and danced and danced
And danced and danced and danced and danced and danced

Once upon a place
I first saw your lovely face
Oh yes, it's said we met by what they call as chance
And I sighed, sweet lady, may I  have this dance

Underneath the Stars

 Hey diddle lonely one
Stay till the light is gone
Sit here in the dark
Underneath the stars

When the day comes to end
You'll be beside your friends
Love you as you are
Underneath the stars

Hm mm mm mm mm mm
Hm mm mm mm mm mm

Painted in evening hues
Dimming with fading views
Leaving only the heart
Underneath the stars
Underneath the stars

Lap It Up

I Lap it up babe - Lap it up babe -Lap it up                  [chorus]
I Lap it up babe - Lap it up babe -Lap it up
Lap it up babe - Lap it up babe -Lap it up
I Lap it up babe - Lap it up babe -Lap it up
Oh oh - - - oh oh - so good

Like a kitty with her milk
Like my doggie on my toes
Like the spider with the silk
Like the elephant with his nose

[chorus]

Like the kiddies with their cones
Like a Shop Vac with a spill
Like vultures on dem bones
Like a bee in a daffodil

[chorus]

Nano Tune

nano tune

Francine

Oh Francine, how do you  do your do?                        [chorus]
Oh Francine, how do you  do your do?
Honey you're the best thing I ever knew

Met Francine about a quarter of five
Ozzie Queen at a black swan dive
Like pickin up a wire that is live
Threw back her head and laughed at my jive

[chorus]

She stole my keys and ditched me as well
Said she wouldn't drive and drink no swill
Stopped for Maybelline at the top of the hill
Now I'm a runnin after them women still

[chorus]

Every Day's a Good Day

Sittin' there is who you are
Be you bozo, be you star
On a cushion chair or fallen tree
Callin' to the fallin' in thee
Happy to be just who you are

And as the mountain man say                                      [chorus]
Every day is a good day
Every day is a good day

Standin up is gosh almight
Beyond the good and wrong the left and right
But any names like Buddha, Tao, Allah, God, Mind, Holy Cow now
Don't begin to cast light on your light

[chorus]

Lyin' down the run of day is over
There you are in dreams of streams and clover
Now you know why they say one way
Like the the stars up in the sky they
Shine upon the branches and the boulders

[chorus]

My Babe

My babe -  don't take no sass from me
Instead - she pours the glass for me
And my babe – she ain't mine

My babe – look in her eyes and see
She maybe – have a surprise for me
For to play with the shine

She could dance with hunters or with reindeer        [interlude]
She could charm ole Satan on his knee
She could paint the moon or moon the painter
She could hug the sap right from a tree – could she

My babe – don't give me time of day
She ain't - got a watch anyway
She say – it's about that time

My babe – some sort of crook is she
The way – my babe she looks at me
Tells me all I want to find

Free Man

I'm a free man, a free man baby
A free man, out of slavery
A free man, so sublime
A free man, a free mine I'm
Free, a free man, a free man baby.

Free like the bubble, floatin light and round
Free like the Hubble, spaced out without sound
Free like the hobo, the whacko, or the clown
Free like the paraglider fore they splats the ground

I'm a free man, a free man baby
A free man, in the gravy
A free man, at this time
A free man, a free man I'm
Free, a free man, a free man baby

Free like the fluid, washin in my spine
Free like the blood that flows inside my veins
Free like the oxygen I'm drinkin all the time
Free like the freedom of the saint or the insane

I'm a free man, a free man baby
A free man, a free man baby
.....
A free man, free

Free man - free man baby
Free man – don't mean maybe
Free man – freely playin
Free man – I be sayin
Free man – free man baby
Free man – free man baby

La la la la la La la la la la

Mama I'm Loosin You

Take this lint and add it to
A basket of the shredded news
Blend with water, flowers and glue
Oh mama – I'm loosin you

Here's a bead that I forgot
To string before I tied the knot
I'll put it in the bauble box
Oh mama – I'm loosin you

Take the kettle – water's hot
Earl Grey's waiting in the pot
Set the cream out, sugar, and cups
Oh Mama – I'm loosin you

Fools together

Fools together, fools together
Fools our whole life through
Fools together, fools together
Whatever it is that we do
There may be times that we are super duper smart
And others that we sail through
But usually we're foolishly fools
And fools together too

Fools together, fools together
Fools from head to toe
Fools together, fools together
Wherever it is that we go
There may be heroes, bodhisattvas, good hearts
And moments of clarity too
But usually we're foolishly fools
And fools together too

[repeat first verse repeating last line]

And fools together too.

Hers and Mine

She's got her stars, I've got mine
Once was we were valentines
But now – we divide the universe

She's on her side, I'm on another
King and Queen of something or other
Who have split the cosmos

There's nothin' else in the ten directions
That's not either hers or mine

She's the southern, I'm the north
For whatever it is worth
Lord and Lady of all space and time

We've our poles and we've our spheres
Infinite and empty dears
Only Nirvana can join us

There ain't no answers to no quantum questions
That don't fall in his or hers

There it's counter, here it's clock
There it's glove and here ole sock
Same dancing sunlight upon us

She's got her stars, I've got mine
Once was we were valentines
But now – we divide the universe

No Hope

There's no hope for us all
No hope for us all
We try so hard to do what we can
But there's no hope for us all

Good to You

If you want to get a girl gotta treat her mean
That's what they told me back in Abilene
Treat her mean, treat her mean
I'd rather treat you to a cup o tea
Cause I just want to be good to you.

If you want a meltin' mama you gotta be cruel
That's what they told me back in high school
Gotta be cruel, gotta be cruel
Honey, I'd rather be your fool
Cause I just want to be good to you

Can't keep my cool none    [interlude]
Babbling on these days
Can't hide my love hon
Let me count the ways

They'll beg for more if you act real cold
That's what I was often told
Act real cold, act real cold
I'd rather melt before you on the floor
Cause I just want to be good to you

[repeat interlude]

If you want to be the boss use strategy
That's what the studs all said to me
Strategy, strategy
I'd rather surrender unconditionally
Cause I just want to be good to you

[repeat first verse]

Pure of Heart

Looking up above tonight - at the spread of brightening stars
Hints of wonder that recite - how wonderful you are
I love you for your eyes on me - I loved you from the start
But in the end I love you friend - for you are pure of heart

Walkin' down the street alone - dog on leash that's trailin free
Kickin' long a bouncing stone – where once you walked with me
I love you for your gentleness - I love you for your warts
But in the end I love you friend - for you are pure of heart

Pen on paper light from lamp - stomach's growling goes unheard
Late and tired dear here I am - a wrappin up these words
I love you for your mischief - I love you for your art
But why I still hold to this torch - is you are pure of heart

But why I still hold to this torch - is you are pure of heart

Girl from Perth

A walkin' downtown, at a corner I found myself
Talkin' to that girl from Perth
There was a warm breeze, my darn knees
Bout buckled to that girl from Perth
She took me drivin' in the country, sunny, bumpy
It was somethin'
Now I'm sittin' alone, hand on the phone
Thinkin' ‘bout that girl from Perth

Those looks sorta started when our pals parted
Talkin' ‘bout that girl from Perth
In the woods, on the shore, on the dance floor
I'ze Stalkin that girl from Perth
Walkin' down the city street with her yin yang tattoo
An' her bare feet
Then I'ze sittin here workin on my second beer
Drinkin' to that girl from Perth.

She'll be in Queensland, hair full of sand
Sun on that girl from Perth
Or in Darwin town, she'll burn it down
Look out for that girl from Perth
I'll jet through the astral stream
To get to that rascal of my dreams
Now I'm drivin along, high on a song
Singin bout that girl from Perth.

Thank You

There's a time to grieve, a time to groan
A time to say I can't make it on my own
But oh, there's a time it is known
To say thank you

There's a place to sigh, a place to cry
A place to sit and wonder why
But oh, there's a place in this life
To say thank you

Here come the boys               [interlude]
Makin' all their noise
The gals get them to lay down their toys
To rejoice to rejoice to rejoice

There's a mind that is lonely
A mind in pain
A mind that somehow makes it through the day
But oh, there's a mind on the way
That says thank you

[repeat interlude and first verse]

Ruined Piano

[improvised words]

That piano's ruined

Alright, go man go

Play that, play that ruined piano

Bye bye

Baby bye bye, baby bye bye

Go! Go!

Bye bye

Dream of You

Oh my doll, I dream of you
And the garden wall reveals you too
In the wind that winds the blue
I remember who was there
Who took the time the time to care
To one so fair, to one so few
I declare hon
I love you
Yes I do
In the clear, in our brew
And as your wings lift up into
I let you go to fly off where
There is no need to have to wear
The garment or the shoe
And dear indeed as memory bleeds
I'll long remember you
Oh yes I will
Into the veil, beyond the hill
Until I fail here is my heart
It will disappear but there you are
There's no accounting for the stars
That stare at us until
We are the blinking, slowly sinking
To the ocean then
To meet again
As the family, flower, as the friend
As the lion devours the prey
Indra's dancing net within
The changing partners, women men
From children born anew
Such lands will lead us to
Of all places, always home
Always touching, always lone
Freed by breath and held by bone
You lift me and you blow out then
A daffodil into the wind
I'm floating out into the light and love
Throughout
Our new faces
Always home
Always touching, always lone
Always perfect, Always shown
And going on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on
And on

Bloomin'

Well all be back together when she's bloomin'
When she's bloomin'
When she blooms
We'll all be back together
When she's bloomin'
When she's bloomin'
When she blooms

 Girl from Perth

E                E                                                                   A                                E

A walkin' downtown, at a corner I found myself  --  Talkin' to that girl from Perth

                    E                                                             A                                     E

There was a warm breeze, my darn knees  --  About buckled to that girl from Perth

E                                                            A                      F#

She took me drivin' in the country  --  Sunny, bumpy, it was somethin

               E                                                       A                         E11?         E

Then I's sittin' alone, hand on the phone  --  Thinkin bout that girl from Perth

E                                                                               A                                         E

Those looks sorta started when our pals parted  --  Talkin' ‘bout that girl from Perth

          E                                                                         A                                E

In the woods, on the shore, on the dance floor I's  --  Stalkin' that girl from Perth

E                                                                A                                  F#

Walkin' down the city street  --  with her yin yang tattoo an' her bare feet

                E                                                                   A                       E11?       E

Then I'ze sittin' here workin' on my second beer  --  Drinkin' to that girl from Perth.

E                                                                      A                               E

She'll be in Queensland, hair full of sand  --  Sun on that girl from Perth

         E                                                                   A                               E

Or in Darwin town, she'll burn it down  --  Look out for that girl from Perth

E                                                             A                      F#

I'll jet through the astral stream  --  To get to that rascal of my dreams

                E                                                   A                          E11?       E

Now I'm drivin' along, high on a song  --  Singin' ‘bout that girl from Perth.

[Repeat instrumental verse then last verse and repeat last line]

Thank You

E                          E7           E6       E7

There's a time to grieve, a time to groan

A                               F#7

A time to say I can't make it on my own,

       E/e   /a♭      C#7

But oh, there's a time it is known

            F#7          A7

To say thank you

E                          E7           E6       E7

There's a place to sigh, a place to cry,

A                           F#7

A place to sit and wonder why,

       E/e   /a♭      C #7

But oh, there's a place in this life

            F#7          F7 E E7

To say thank you

A/a    /a#           E/e    /c#

Here come the boys                                      Interlude

A/a      /a#       E/e      /c#

Makin all their noise

        A/a   / a#              E/e                 C#

The gals get them to lay down their toys

      F#7                         B9

To rejoice to rejoice to rejoice.

E                                 E7           E6       E7

There's a mind that is lonely, a mind in pain

A                                  F#7

A mind that somehow makes it through the day,

       E/e   /a♭      C #7

But oh, there's a mind on the way

                 F#7         A7

That says thank you.

Oh my doll, I dream of you,

Am                              C7

And the garden wall reveals you too
          F               B
♭ 7

In the wind that winds the blue

C

I remember who was there

         Am

Who took the time the time to care

      D7

To one so fair,

               G7         G7+

to one so few,   I declare hon

C                         E7

I love you, Yes I do

Am             C7

In the clear, in our brew,

And as your wings lift up into

   C

I let you go to fly off where

         Am

There is no need to have to wear

       D7

The garment or the shoe

                   G7                     G7+a

and dear indeed as memory bleeds

                  C                                E7

I'll long remember you, oh yes I will

Into the veil, beyond the hill

         D7

That stare at us until

                 G7                     G7+

            C                               E7

To the ocean then, to meet again

           Am                   C7

As the family, flower, as the friend

As the lion devours the prey,

C

Indra's dancing net within

         Am

The changing partners, women men

          D7

From children born anew

                         G7       G7+

such lands will lead us to

         C                     E7

of all places always home

             Am                      C7

Always touching, always lone,

 F                              B♭ 7

Freed by breath and held by bone,

        C

You lift me and you blow out then

     Am

A daffodil into the wind

       D7

I'm floating out into

                     G7               G7+

the light and love  throughout

               C                   E7

Our new faces, always home

             Am                      C7

Always touching, always lone,

And going on and on and on and on

And on and on and on
